ABA Therapy can be Fun, Natural and Generalizable!
February 19, 2018
There is a common misconception that Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) therapy in Malaysia is too rigid. However, at Autism Link Malaysia, our ABA approach is child-centered and naturalistic. We utilise many ways to keep our therapy sessions natural, fun and generalizable!
Here are some of the methods we use at Autism Link Malaysia:
Using enthusiastic tones
Varying teaching environments and settings
Using a wide range of instructions
Utilising preferred, interesting, age-appropriate and functional materials
Closing programs that are already mastered to ensure students are not bored
Maintaining a high success rate
Using the student's preferences in tasks or as reinforcers
Using varied and natural reinforcers
Using language that is as natural as possible
Reducing structure as much as possible
With all of the above, we believe that children can learn more effectively in a fun setting and learn how to generalise these skills in real life situations.
